The Birchdale Letter September 2026

The Harvest Time. The Beautiful Time.

Birchdale has been nominated for two awards this year: Rising Star and Best Tourism Business from the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce. It’s such a great feeling after the wonderful summer we have had. This place has been welcoming people since the 1911, but something has been happening here that a whole new group of people are starting to notice, and being named alongside the businesses that make this corner of Nova Scotia so special feels like a genuine honour. And Nicola Roberts-Fenton, our general manager is at the centre of our success. She is a star in our firmament and we are thrilled she has been nominated for the Rising Star award by her peers. Thank you to everyone who has been part of that. You know who you are, and there are a lot of you.

This month we have two WONDERFUL things coming up, and we really, really, want you to join us!

The first is a Petite Retreat, this Tuesday and Wednesday(!), September 22 to 23. Come for one night marking the solstice, the new season, the crisper temps, the cozier nights and the colours of fall. Nicola leads this reset and Caitlin Bethany from Sunny Slopes will be there to share some of her wisdom around our local herbs and medicines. There will be delicious food, warm fires and comfortable beds if you stay for the night.

The second is our Sunday Supper on September 27, and it is going to fill you with delight. Chef Ayzhia Beaton of Basin & Bloom Cookery is cooking, Alyssa Mood is playing. The menu is a beautiful blend of flavours of  the season. Local, lively and delicious .Big Tables in the woods at the end of September, with the light going gold and the season turning. Candles lit. This is an age old Birchdale tradition and bringing it back has been one of the great pleasures of this year. It’s a perfect Sunday activity. 4:30pm-7:30pm.  I am completely biased but…I can’t recommend this experience highly enough. There is nothing like it in the region, and it is just one more way that Birchdale glimmers.

We know how the fall goes. Everything starts up fast and the idea of taking a break slides to the bottom of the list. Please don’t let it. Two opportunities to breathe deep and remember how lucky we are to live in this region are here!

Harvest Time. Beautiful Time.

Come reap with us!

As always, thanks for reading,

Sarah
